1. Official Government Fees

The main part of mandatory expenses is related to payment of official fees to the competent intellectual property authority of Armenia.

Usually, fees include:

• filing of the application;

• examination of the application;

• grant of the patent;

• maintenance of the patent for subsequent periods.

Fee amounts may change, therefore it is advisable to verify the current tariffs before filing.

1.1 Official Fees: Basic Example for a Legal Entity

Below is an example for an application filed by a legal entity with more than 100 employees.

For the first industrial design:

• filing fee — AMD 20,000

• substantive examination fee — AMD 30,000

Total at the initial stage: AMD 50,000

For the second and each subsequent design variant in the same application:

• filing fee — AMD 8,000

• substantive examination fee — AMD 20,000

This makes multiple applications economically efficient in many cases.

After the Decision to Grant the Patent

If the examination results in a positive decision, the following fees are payable:

• patent grant fee — AMD 15,000

• maintenance fee for the first 5 years — AMD 60,000

Total after approval: AMD 75,000

Example of Total Cost for One Design

For one industrial design (without additional variants):

Before grant:

• AMD 20,000

• AMD 30,000

After positive decision:

• AMD 15,000

• AMD 60,000

Total amount: AMD 125,000

(excluding representative fees and preparation of materials)

1.2 Fee Reductions

It should be noted that Armenian legislation provides substantial reductions for certain official fees.

For individual applicants, as well as legal entities with up to 25 employees, a 75% reduction applies to fees for:

• filing the application;

• patent grant;

• patent maintenance.

For legal entities with 25 to 100 employees, a 50% reduction applies to the relevant fees.

This system makes industrial design patenting especially accessible for startups and small and medium-sized businesses.

Preparation usually includes:

• analysis of the subject matter to be protected;

• determination of filing strategy;

4. Representative Services
